lean ground beef

white onion, minced

garlic, crushed

1/2

water

white sugar

1 1/2 tsp

dried basil leaves 

1/2 tsp

fennel seeds 

1 tsp

Italian seasoning 

To taste

ground black pepper

4 tbsp

fresh parsley, chopped

400 g

ricotta cheese

Procedure:

  1. In a big pot, cook sausage, ground beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat until well browned.
  2. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and water. Season with sugar, basil, fennel seeds, Italian seasoning, 1 teaspoon salt, pepper, and 2 tablespoons parsley. Simmer, covered, for about 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese with egg, remaining parsley, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
  4. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C)

To assemble:

  1. Spread 1 1/2 cups of meat sauce in the bottom of a baking dish
  2. Arrange an equal layer of lasagna noodles over meat sauce
  3. Spread some of the ricotta cheese mixture till the pasta is covered
  4. Cover with mozzarella cheese slices.
  5. Spoon 1 1/2 cups meat sauce over the mozzarella and sprinkle with parmesan
  6. Repeat till all ingredients have been used.
  7. Cover with foil, to prevent it from sticking to the lasagna spray foil with cooking spray.

To bake:

  1. Bake in preheated oven for 25 mins
  2. Remove foil and bake an additional 25 mins to brown the cheese on top.
  3. Cool for 15 mins and serve.
