Beef Shawarma Rice

This Beef Shawarma Recipe is inspired by the Middle Eastern shawarma with the preference of Filipino.This dish lets you enjoy a balanced mix of turmeric rice, cucumber salad and garlic yogurt sauce made according to your liking. 

This recipe is easy to prepare and could be done in less than 40 minutes!

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

For the beef:

Ingredients QTY UOM
Ground Beef 300 g
Onion (chopped) 1 tbsp
Garlic (chopped) 1 tsp
Chiquilin Ground Cumin 1/2 tsp
Chiquilin Sweet Paprika 1 tsp
Chiquilin Cayenne Pepper 1/8 tsp
Chiquilin Ground Turmeric 1/2 tsp
Garlic Powder 1 tsp
To taste: Salt & Pepper

 

For the tumeric rice:

Ingredients QTY UOM
Extra Virgin Olive Oil 2 tbsp
As needed: Cooked Rice
As needed: Salt & Pepper
As needed: Chiquilin Ground Turmeric

 

For the garlic-yogurt sauce:

Ingredients QTY UOM
Mayo 1/4 cup
Yogurt 1/4 cup
Garlic (grated) 1/2 tsp
As needed: lemon
As needed: lemon zest
As needed: Salt & Pepper

 

For the cucumber salad:

Ingredients QTY UOM
As needed: Cucumber (sliced)
As needed: Tomatoes (sliced)
As needed: Onions (sliced)

 

STEPS

For the rice:

  1. Heat oil in pan over medium flame.
  2. Add in turmeric powder and cooked rice. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. 
  3. Mix well. 

For the beef:

  1. Pan fry beef over medium heat until browned. 
  2. Once brown, push meat to one side of the pan. Saute onion and garlic. 
  3. Season with cumin powder, paprika and turmeric powder. Saute for 2 minutes and set aside.

For the yogurt sauce:

  1. Combine mayonnaise, yogurt, grated garlic, lemon zest, lemon juice, salt and pepper. Mix everything until well combined.

To assemble:

  1. Put rice on one side of the plate. Then beef and salad on the other side.
  2. Drizzle some the garlic-yogurt sauce on top of the rice. Enjoy.
